Another week down, a month has gone by already since I have started AP Lit. Although the class challenges me to think differently than I ever have before, in a way that sometimes I don’t even understand, it’s a challenge that I enjoy. I am soaking up new information like a sponge, and am learning new things in ways that I could never have imagined. We talked about being selective this week, taking a stance on something and then sticking to it. In the past, this has been challenging for me, and I am coming in, with a new perspective, and an attitude that I can do this. When a writer takes a stand in their writing and then sticks with it throughout the whole piece, it allows the writing to flow well, and in the end it is easier and more enjoyable to read. Imagery is something else that we’ve learned about in class. In the past, I have been drilled to think that imagery always means visual imagery, seeing a picture in your mind. Through Dickinson's poem, I have learned that there are many different types of imagery that use many different senses, such as smelling the peculiar smell of something, or feeling the movement as it flows. This newfound knowledge will help me not only interpret writing better, but will certainly help me with my own. In the first few days of this class I was nervous for what was to come, but after being a month in, I believe that I can conquer this class, and when I leave I will have a new perspective on things. www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/there-are-no-rules/create-powerful-imagery-in-your-writing
